Birds in Summer
The osprey are fledging. The ducklings are swimming. The black-crowned night heron parent is preening. The gulls are watching.

May Days
Great blue heron rookery is captivating all of us here. I never knew the birds raised their young in a colony. Twenty active nests are supporting probably close to 80 young. It wouldn’t be spring without goslings and a swan. And our local osprey has again chosen the communication tower at the train station. I…

Migration Time

Eagles Everywhere
Plus, we have a few other visitors in the area. The goldeneyes seem to be here in abundance. We also have a loon. A crow decided to harass a young merlin. The merlin won.

Eagles Everywhere
They have arrived! There are many, many eagle sightings along the Hudson River between Croton and Peekskill. The eagles are now ice fishing. Today we counted 15 eagles on the ice between Fleischmann’s Pier (China Pier) and Peekskill’s Riverfront Park. Five eagles were perched and flying over the Croton Point Nature Center. Two young…
