Went to Eagle Mecca. Was fascinated by this first year eagle. I’m sure it is a she. She landed above me. She may have just eaten because she preened and played and stayed.
The eagles have not arrived in droves as in years past, but there were a few. Unfortunately, the bitter northwest wind kept them high and away from the river. Here you see the various ages starting with adult.
Very rewarding October trips to that dam place.
Went to that dam place for the first time this year. We estimated the eagle count at 100.

I finally managed to get a flight shot with my old 600mm and 1.4 teleconverter. The birds were right in front of me as usual. Some peopleContinue reading “Conowingo Stoop”
Went back with my photo friends on the projected best day, i.e. sun, wind, water level. It was appropriately Veteran’s Day for humans and eagles. They ran the water about a half hour after we got to the dam. Many of my eagle forum friends were there, too. Enjoy!
What can I say about Hurricane Sandy? I was extremely lucky. The Conowingo eagle population swelled after the storm. Now there are at least 175 more eagles than there were two weeks ago. And every single eagle caught a fish while we were there. Plus, all the other fish eating birds caught a fish. AllContinue reading “Eagles after the storm”
I made the pilgrimage with a few close photo friends. When you make a four hour drive one way together, you know you are close friends. It is just before the time when hoards of eagles descend on their Mecca. The locals entertained us. Just be careful where you park your car if you go.
