Yes, there is ice on the Hudson. We have waited for over a year. The eagles are everywhere. I only made a few stops today. There were 3 eagles in Croton Point Park, 3 at Furnace Dock, 5 in Verplanck, 5 on the ice off the pier at Fleishmann’s.
I think this is a first year bird, but you can see a lot of white because the bird is soaked
Definitely a mature eagle enjoying the ice and the sun
Not an eagle, but definitely eating ice
And ’tis the month of love and nest rebuilding. Our own pale male is setting up the nest for his mate.
Six or seven year old male red tailed hawk
Bringing it on home
…but the eagles are still here. Congratulations to Teatown Lake Reservation and First Niagara Bank for putting on a great show. I even managed to get a few eagle pictures at the Croton Train Station Boat Ramp late in the day – low tide – great light – hungry eagles. Who said eagles don’t swim?
Getting ready for the Big Blizzard of ’13. I needed a few more pictures for my Teatown Hudson River EagleFest (now Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013) presentation, For the Eagles. Thankfully, I went out yesterday on my rounds. George’s Island eagles did appear just as I drove up. They knew I needed to fill in a blank slide. The Verplanck/Fleishmann’s Pier eagles may need some anger management. An adult and immature did a flyover Annsville Paddlesport Park going west. They landed in the trees at the entrance to Fort Smith in support of our troops.
There are eagles at George’s Island this year. We were beginning to worry
These kids are driving me crazy. Funny thing is that the branch could barely hold the adult. The immature really wobbled for a minute then took after the mature.
Forgot to show what that youngster really caught when it swooped down into the river a few days ago.
After a few days of warmth, the cold air is back, but the eagles are heating up the sky. Enjoy the sequence. And I put in some perched pictures, too.
Coming in for a landing
… up in the air
Once more ….
…. with feeling, or discussion … notice the beaks
There will be eggs somewhere even though this male seems quite young
I’m looking over …
…. this guy
The day would not be complete without seeing My Gal
