Winter Break Ends …
The weather remained spectacular for February along the Hudson River. I was fortunate to have caught a few eagles, mockingbird, flock of red winged blackbirds with the first female, and a cowbird with mates. Plus, my local red tail ambassador continued to pose for ‘his’ adoring public.

Winter Break Begins!
The Lower Hudson River is an incredible place to live. Project FeederWatch continues at Croton Point Nature Center and the eagles are still around. This year spring has come very early.

Hudson River EagleFest
Our local eagles got the emails encouraging them to attend Teatown Lake Reservation’s Hudson River EagleFest. The day started with four eagles perched quite near the main tents. It continued with constant fly overs at the Croton Boat Ramp. It ended with our local resident eagles flying over the live raptor demonstrations at the end […]

Red Tails Together!
The red tail pair at Croton Point Park finally arrived at the Croton Point Nature Center together. They were after the newly arrived rat at the bird feeders. And of course they were after one of the 13 squirrels who frequent the feeders. By now, there are quite a few less squirrels. They are my […]

Project FeederWatch and Eagles!
My volunteer duties continue at the Croton Point Park Nature Center on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The regular visitors helped themselves to breakfast. One highlight was that the white throated sparrow now has friends. The junco flock has settled in. Eagles continue to land in the tree on the north point.

The Eagles Are Back
I had the lovely vision of seven eagles soaring above me at the Croton Point Park Nature Center. What a great way to start the new year, albeit a little bit early. Along with the eagles, the usual birds were there.

Early December at Croton Point
Saw Mill River Audubon and Croton Nature Center Project FeederWatch continues. I’m still waiting for the eagles to come. Hopefully it will be soon. In the meantime enjoy the pictures.

Croton Point Project Feeder Watch Plus
The weather was glorious and the birds enjoyed themselves. Every bird except the peregrine falcon was at the bird feeders at the nature center. The peregrine was guarding the park at the entrance. She appears to have a green and black band. Could be from New York or New Jersey. Couldn’t read the numbers, darn.

Conowingo Dam Eagles and Project Feeder Watch
Like four hours apart, two days apart, and not many birds. This was the view from way across the Conowingo Dam in Maryland on Thanksgiving weekend. Water gushed from the spillways and turbines at the dam and the eagles could not see the fish. What fish they could see were on the other side of […]

Croton Project Feeder Watch
In contrast to watching outside in the cold…with gloves…hat…heavy coat…warm socks… I get to watch from inside a warm room. Most pictures were taken through a window. I finally got a picture of the kingfisher!! I’ve been trying for over two years. Hope this is a fish crow. Sure sounded like one.
